Supporting art and history across South London

Back

The Maudsley Charity has a proud history of supporting art and history related projects and organisations at our sites throughout South London. Visitors are welcome at all these venues and entry is free. Check the venue websites and our Twitter and Facebook feeds to find out about the latest exhibitions, events and talks.

Bethlem Gallery and Museum of the Mind

We are the principal funder of the contemporary Bethlem Gallery, which supports artists who have used the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust’s services, and Bethlem Museum of the Mind, which features an internationally renowned collection of archives, art and historical objects.

  • Bethlem Gallery, Bethlem Royal Hospital, Monks Orchard Road, Beckenham, BR3 3BX. Open Wednesday to Friday 10am to 5pm (except public holidays) and the first and last Saturday of the month.

Maudsley Long Gallery and ORTUS

A Maudsley Charity grant enabled the transformation of a disused hospital corridor into a  public art space at the Maudsley Long Gallery in Denmark Hill; we also own the award-winning ORTUS building, a hidden gem of a hi-tech events and education venue with a friendly public café and workspace area.

  • Maudsley Long Gallery, Maudsley Hospital,  Denmark Hill, SE5 8AZ. Open from 9am to 7pm daily.
  • ORTUS Café, 82-96 Grove Lane, SE5 8SM. Open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

Adamson Collection Trust

The Adamson Collection is home to an international art collection of 5,500 artworks produced by people who were treated at, and lived in, Europe’s mental asylums, including patients from the British long-stay hospital Netherne.

A permanent collection of work is on display at Oak House, Lambeth Hospital, SW9 9NT.
